Southern Delaware Medical Group turns to Quality Insights for EHR guidance

8/25/2014
Learn how Quality Insights helped Southern Delaware Medical Group successfully transition from traditional medical charts to a paperless office and qualify for the Meaningful Use incentive.

Back in 2006, Southern Delaware Medical Group began working with Quality Insights of Delaware to make the transition from medical charts to a paperless office. Together, the office staff and a Quality Insights project coordinator implemented the EHR in phases. In 2008, the office staff team was learning to fully use the system to track care and improve quality as part of a project to encourage more Medicare beneficiaries to take advantage of preventive services. Quality Insights helped the practice generate reports to determine which patients needed mammograms, colonoscopies and flu and pneumonia immunizations.

Quality Insights helped the practice analyze monthly reports and provided interventions to help increase screening rates in need of improvement. Within three years, the practice’s team was ready to take the next step: the meaningful use incentive. Enter Quality Insights of Delaware Regional Extension Center.

A Regional Extension Center practice coordinator developed checklists for the nurses to follow to make sure they were capturing the information necessary for pursuing meaningful use. After just a few weeks, the practice was meeting its goals. And, after 90 days of reporting, the team easily qualified for the incentive.
