PA Practice Partners with Quality Insights to Save Money and Boost Their MIPS Score

Urology of Central PA is an independent and progressive 18-provider practice located in Camp Hill that started working with Quality Insights in May of 2017. According to Andrea Dietz, Director of Clinical Operations, “Our team thought we were prepared for MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System) success in early 2017 when we hired consultants to help us with our Security Risk Assessment. We also had access to their team of experts to assist in this project.” Dietz reported that her practice spent $5,500 on these consultative services in 2017.

“We later heard about Quality Insights from some of our other independent practice colleagues and were amazed that the services and support they offered to help practices like ours prepare for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) and MIPS reporting were free,” said Dietz. “We soon realized that working with Quality Insights allowed us greater access to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), provided us with a reliable resource to ask specific questions and address concerns we had about MIPS, and enabled our practice to be even more successful than we expected for 2017 MIPS reporting, thus, setting us up for greater success in 2018.”
At the start of this year, the practice opted not to renew its agreement with the outside consulting firm. Instead, Dietz plans to continue relying on Lisa Sagwitz, a practice transformation specialist with Quality Insights, for MIPS guidance.
“Lisa and the team at Quality Insights are the primary resource we need to understand MIPS and any changes that arise within the program moving forward,” said Dietz. “They have a great MIPS Calculator tool that really helped us to understand our score when we input data from our reports, like you would do in real-time when you attest. Lisa has always been willing to help us every step of the way.”
Dietz and Sagwitz hold monthly calls focused on stretching the practice’s goals in an effort to attain the highest MIPS score possible. “Lisa always makes herself available to us to answer questions and address any concerns we might have between meetings,” shared Dietz. “She is very responsive and knowledgeable. When she does not know the answer, she researches it and reports back in a very timely manner, which is extremely valuable to our practice.”
Thanks to the no-cost assistance that Urology of Central PA has received from Lisa Sagwitz and the Quality Insights team, the practice will not only save thousands of dollars on consultant fees, but Dietz reports that Quality Insights has allowed her practice to better understand the MIPS program and be more successful – their current MIPS score is in the 90s.
