Let’s Give Nurses a Hand this May

Celebrate National Nurses Week and National Nursing Home Week this month
The month of May gives Americans two reasons to celebrate our country’s 3.1 million registered nurses. Each year National Nurses Week kicks off on May 6, which is RN Recognition Day. The week ends on May 12, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

Additionally, National Nursing Home Week is observed from May 14-20. This special week spotlights nursing home residents and staff, celebrating and honoring everyone who contributes to our nation’s nursing homes – residents, family members, employees and volunteers.

“Every day, nurses throughout the U.S. work to save lives and improve the health of millions of people,” says Quality Insights Quality Innovation Network Director Rebecca Cochran, MSN, RN, CPHQ. “Quality Insights honors our team of professionals who work tirelessly to improve the quality of healthcare at this time and all year long.”

The Quality Insights’ team partners with healthcare providers throughout Delaware, Louisiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to support nursing homes in their efforts to reduce healthcare acquired conditions. “Our staff offers nursing homes tools and resources, coupled with technical assistance, to help them put best practices into place,” says Cochran. This assistance ultimately results in better health, better care and reduced healthcare costs.
